Editorial methodology

Our educational pages start with the governing 2023 NBA–NBPA Collective Bargaining Agreement and official league guidance. We translate those rules into plain-English answers, examples, and tool behavior. Every published guide shows a review date and links to its primary references.

When a rule depends on the season, transaction date, team salary, or contract facts, we say so instead of presenting one number as universally applicable. The interactive tools apply the relevant stored thresholds and scenario state.

Data, estimates, and corrections

Salary figures, projections, market estimates, and roster details may change as transactions are completed or corrected. They are provided for analysis, not as official league records or financial advice.

Community reviewers help identify discrepancies in contracts, picks, and roster state. Corrections are reviewed before they become part of the base dataset, and meaningful product or data changes are documented in the public changelog.

Armchair GM has been shaped in collaboration with AVC and a community of basketball researchers and testers who pressure-test both the product and its underlying assumptions.

Armchair GM is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NBA or NBPA. The site explains and simulates roster-building rules for educational and entertainment purposes. If a summary conflicts with the governing agreement, the agreement controls.
